High potential and gifted education

At Cronulla High School, we are committed to recognising, nurturing and extending the diverse talents of our students. High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) refers to the ways in which we identify and support students whose abilities in the intellectual, creative, social-emotional and/or physical domains are more advanced than those of their peers. These students may learn more quickly, think more critically, or demonstrate natural talents that require carefully tailored opportunities to ensure they continue to thrive.

Our approach to HPGE is underpinned by the Department of Education’s HPGE Policy and embedded across the life of the school. We actively identify potential early and design responsive, differentiated learning experiences that extend and challenge students within their classrooms. Teachers employ evidence-informed strategies such as enrichment, extension and acceleration to ensure students’ needs are met, while also fostering resilience, curiosity and a love of learning.

Beyond the classroom, Cronulla High School offers an extensive suite of enrichment opportunities that reflect the breadth of student strengths. Whether through academic competitions, artistic showcases, leadership pathways or elite sporting programs, students are encouraged to pursue their passions and achieve at the highest level. These initiatives connect them to regional, state and national platforms, opening doors to wider experiences and building pathways to future success.

By investing in high potential and gifted education, Cronulla High School ensures every student is challenged, inspired and empowered to realise their potential. Our culture of excellence is one where ability is recognised, talent is developed, and achievement is celebrated.

TEDx at Cronulla High School

At Cronulla High School, we proudly host TEDx Youth events that give our students the chance to share their ideas, passions, and voices with the wider community. These events celebrate creativity, critical thinking, and leadership, while building student confidence in public speaking.

Our first TEDx event, TEDxCronullaHighSchoolYouth 2024, featured inspiring talks from students Amber Smith, Darcy Palmer, Izzy Ryan, Keira Hepburn, Olivia Colburt, Paige Coady, and keynote speaker Kal Glanznig. Topics ranged from the challenges of growing up and youth homelessness to the importance of history, swimming safety, and navigating the world of social media.

In 2025, our second TEDx event expanded on this momentum, with students such as Alicia Campbell, Angela Cantlon, Christopher Kypreos, CJ Lee, and Millie Sawyer delivering powerful talks on issues including social media, education reform, coding, bullying, and breaking misconceptions about ADHD and Autism.
